A company-wide Health Risk Assessment (HRA) campaign is your starting point for a corporate wellness Program Because you are reading this page, you likely understand the value of fostering a wellness culture at your company and you want to do something to improve the health and well-being of your employees. However, you may be a little stuck on just how to make that happen. Should you start a walking program? Perhaps offer onsite exercise classes? You’re probably wondering what works best to improve your employee’s health and productivity. An HRA can help you answer these questions.
What your corporate wellness program encompasses depends on what types of risk factors your current employees might have. You can get a picture of the current health and risk factors of your workforce by administering an HRA to all the employees to whom you provide medical benefits. An HRA can be done all online, or you can add a “live” component and combine an online HRA with an onsite biometric screening day.
A well-designed Health Risk Assessment can help your company in three major ways:
1). Identify health risk factors of your current workforce
2). Predict health related costs of the risk factors your workforce has
3). Provide you with a starting point on what types of programs to emphasize in your wellness program
4). Help you evaluate the Return on Investment and efficacy of wellness programs you put into place
Benefits to your employees when they take a Health Risk Assessment:
1) They get valuable information on their current health status and potential risk factors for disease
2) Their assessment results will give them ideas on how to decrease their risk factors and improve their health and well-being
3) The HRA results can act as a catalyst for change
When you work with lifeSport Fitness, we provide you a private web portal for your employees to complete their assessment online. After all employees who are going to take the assessment have completed their online assessment, we will share with you aggregate results that will illustrate what types of health risks your employees currently have, and also a view into where your health care dollars may be spent in the future (due to treating chronic health conditions).
Your aggregate data may show you have high percentage of reported back pain amongst employees. Perhaps you have a high obesity rate amongst your workforce, or a high number of individuals with High Blood Pressure. All of these data points indicate areas for you to concentrate on when you plan your wellness offerings.
Rather than flying blind and offering a smattering of programs that may or may not address issues pertinent to your workforce, get a snapshot of your current workforce before embarking on program planning. You can then do another HRA campaign in 12 months and again at 24 months to see how your employees’ risk factors are trending.
Your HRA results will be your starting roadmap so that you can specifically design your wellness program to meet the needs/risks of your current workforce.
